Writing an honest condition description (with template)

A fill-in template for describing a used item on Bids Kenya: what to include, how to describe flaws and what to avoid, so buyers trust you and disputes are rare.

A good description answers the questions a buyer cannot ask before bidding. It also protects you if something is later disputed.

Template

Copy this and fill it in:

  • What it is: brand, model, size or specifications.
  • Age and use: how long you have had it and what you used it for.
  • What works: everything you have tested, in plain words.
  • What does not: every fault, mark or missing part, even small ones.
  • What is included: charger, cables, box, accessories.
  • Delivery: whether collection is possible, and who pays for delivery.

Do and do not

  • Do say what you have not tested instead of guessing.
  • Do match the description to the photos.
  • Do not call something “like new” if it is not. New and new-in-box items are not allowed at all.
  • Do not hide a fault. Selling “as-is” never excuses undisclosed defects.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit my description once the auction is live?

No. Corrections go through an administrator and are recorded, so write it right the first time.

What happens if a buyer says the item is not as described?

They can report a problem from their order. An administrator reviews the evidence and payment to you is held until it is decided. An honest, detailed description is your best protection.
