How Bids Kenya protects buyers and sellers

Only genuinely pre-owned items are allowed, and every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Bids start from KSh 500 and every auction is capped at KSh 25,000. A refundable 10% good-faith deposit keeps out time-wasters, and it is returned automatically if you do not win.

Winners pay the balance to Bids Kenya, not the seller. The seller sends the item once payment is confirmed and is paid after you confirm you have received it. Read more in how auctions work, buyer protection and the prohibited items list.

IT, networking, power: frequently asked questions

Can I sell servers, NAS drives and routers?

Yes. Routers, switches, access points, servers, NAS devices, racks, UPS units and test equipment can be listed, as long as they are genuinely pre-owned and yours to sell.

Should I wipe my device before selling?

Yes. Remove all personal and business data and reset the device before you list it, and say so in your description. Buyers cannot be asked to take on your data.

Are UPS units sold with batteries?

That depends on the listing. Sellers should state whether the battery is included and how old it is, and buyers should ask if it is unclear.

How do I bid on an auction?

Open the IT or networking auction you like, enter your bid and click Place bid. Your bid is recorded straight away and goes live once you pay a refundable 10% good-faith deposit with M-Pesa from your dashboard.

What is the 10% deposit and do I get it back?

The deposit is a small good-faith (earnest money) payment of 10% of your bid. It keeps out time-wasters. If you do not win, your full deposit is refunded to your M-Pesa as soon as the auction closes. If you win, it counts toward the price and you pay the remaining 90%.

How and when do I pay if I win?

You pay the remaining 90% to Bids Kenya through M-Pesa within 72 hours. The seller sends the item only after your payment is confirmed, and the seller is paid only after you confirm you have received it.

Is there a limit on prices?

Yes. Bids start from KSh 500 and every auction is capped at KSh 25,000, so Bids Kenya stays a place to pass on pre-owned items at modest prices.
