How Bids Kenya protects buyers and sellers
Only genuinely pre-owned items are allowed, and every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Bids start from KSh 500 and every auction is capped at KSh 25,000. A refundable 10% good-faith deposit keeps out time-wasters, and it is returned automatically if you do not win.
Winners pay the balance to Bids Kenya, not the seller. The seller sends the item once payment is confirmed and is paid after you confirm you have received it. Read more in how auctions work, buyer protection and the prohibited items list.
Other eligible used equipment: frequently asked questions
What kinds of items can I list here?
Genuinely pre-owned equipment that does not belong in another category, such as TVs, workshop tools, scanners and label printers. If it is new, unused, stolen, counterfeit or a mobile phone, it cannot be listed.
Where do home appliances go?
Used kitchen and household appliances have their own Home appliances category. Use this section for other equipment such as TVs, tools, scanners and label printers.
Where do I find the full list of prohibited items?
See the Prohibited items page. It lists what can never be sold, such as new retail stock, mobile phones, counterfeits and stolen goods, and what goes to extra review.
How do I bid on an auction?
Open the equipment auction you like, enter your bid and click Place bid. Your bid is recorded straight away and goes live once you pay a refundable 10% good-faith deposit with M-Pesa from your dashboard.
What is the 10% deposit and do I get it back?
The deposit is a small good-faith (earnest money) payment of 10% of your bid. It keeps out time-wasters. If you do not win, your full deposit is refunded to your M-Pesa as soon as the auction closes. If you win, it counts toward the price and you pay the remaining 90%.
How and when do I pay if I win?
You pay the remaining 90% to Bids Kenya through M-Pesa within 72 hours. The seller sends the item only after your payment is confirmed, and the seller is paid only after you confirm you have received it.
Is there a limit on prices?
Yes. Bids start from KSh 500 and every auction is capped at KSh 25,000, so Bids Kenya stays a place to pass on pre-owned items at modest prices.
