Tips for buying office and home-office furniture
- Check the measurements and make sure the piece fits your space and doorways.
- Large items need transport. Agree who arranges and pays for delivery before you pay the balance.
- Ask for photos of any scratches, stains or loose parts.
- Collection is often the cheapest option for heavy furniture, so check the seller’s location.
Tips for selling office and home-office furniture
- Give exact dimensions, material and colour.
- Photograph the item from several angles and show any damage.
- Say whether collection is possible and who pays for delivery.
- Offices clearing several pieces can list each item as its own auction.
How Bids Kenya protects buyers and sellers
Only genuinely pre-owned items are allowed, and every listing is reviewed before it goes live. Bids start from KSh 500 and every auction is capped at KSh 25,000. A refundable 10% good-faith deposit keeps out time-wasters, and it is returned automatically if you do not win.
Winners pay the balance to Bids Kenya, not the seller. The seller sends the item once payment is confirmed and is paid after you confirm you have received it. Read more in how auctions work, buyer protection and the prohibited items list.
Office and home-office furniture: frequently asked questions
Can an office sell several pieces of furniture?
Yes. Offices and individuals can list their own used furniture. Each item is listed as its own auction, and a seller can have up to 5 active listings at a time.
Who arranges delivery of large furniture?
Buyer and seller agree delivery or collection directly, including date, time, location and cost. The delivery plan is saved on both dashboards. Delivery cost is separate from the auction price.
Is the furniture inspected by Bids Kenya?
Listings are reviewed before they go live, but items are not physically inspected. Sellers must describe condition honestly, and buyers can ask for extra photos or open a dispute if an item differs materially from its listing.
How do I bid on an auction?
Open the furniture auction you like, enter your bid and click Place bid. Your bid is recorded straight away and goes live once you pay a refundable 10% good-faith deposit with M-Pesa from your dashboard.
What is the 10% deposit and do I get it back?
The deposit is a small good-faith (earnest money) payment of 10% of your bid. It keeps out time-wasters. If you do not win, your full deposit is refunded to your M-Pesa as soon as the auction closes. If you win, it counts toward the price and you pay the remaining 90%.
How and when do I pay if I win?
You pay the remaining 90% to Bids Kenya through M-Pesa within 72 hours. The seller sends the item only after your payment is confirmed, and the seller is paid only after you confirm you have received it.
Is there a limit on prices?
Yes. Bids start from KSh 500 and every auction is capped at KSh 25,000, so Bids Kenya stays a place to pass on pre-owned items at modest prices.
